Coastal Mountain Retreat
About Raiden Resort & Spa
A private coastal retreat in Western Hokkaido where the mountains meet the sea — a boutique refuge where the sea, mountains, and Japanese spirit come together.
Our Place
Iwanai, Western Hokkaido
Raiden Resort sits along the Sea of Japan coast in Iwanai-cho, a quiet fishing town in western Hokkaido framed by Mount Iwanai and the open ocean. From mountain trails and ocean cliffs to local bars, restaurants, and seasonal festivals, guests are invited to experience both the quiet beauty of nature and the warmth of Japanese culture. With eighteen unique rooms and suites, each room opens onto views of either the Sea of Japan or Mount Iwanai, with every season revealing the untouched beauty of the region.
Our Vision
Where sea, mountains, and Japanese spirit come together
Raiden is built around the idea of a calm place to return to. Cherry and mahogany wood details, teak flooring, and washi paper accents create an atmosphere of understated elegance and a gentle sense of Japanese warmth. Hokkaido's four distinct seasons shape every part of the stay — from the dining room, where the kitchen follows the concept of shun (the appreciation of ingredients at their natural peak), to the activities programme, which moves with the rhythm of the coast and the mountains throughout the year.
Sanso Spa Heritage
A traditional approach to wellness
At the heart of the resort, Sanso Spa draws on Japan's long onsen tradition. Iwanai has a long history of natural hot springs — within just one kilometre of the resort, two distinct sources emerge, including the seawater-derived Atatamari-no-Yu, a chloride-rich "warming spring" known for its restorative effects. Guests bathe in pure, free-flowing onsen water, complemented by traditional Japanese oil and stone treatments, Washin acupuncture, and a complete wellness journey rooted in Japanese practice. The spa expresses its philosophy through five oxygen-inspired dimensions — Ki, Ryu, Chi, Hikari, and Sei — guiding guests from breath to stillness.
Our Commitment
Quiet, attentive, and rooted in place
Raiden Resort is a small property by design. Service is unhurried, the spaces are intimate, and the rhythm of each day follows the landscape rather than a schedule. We are committed to working closely with the community of Iwanai and the surrounding region — sourcing seasonally, supporting local craft, and offering guests a stay that genuinely reflects where they are. Whether you come for the powder, the onsen, the food, or simply the quiet, we hope Raiden becomes a place worth returning to.
